For Independent & Home-Based Stylists
If you work from home, a private suite, or anywhere outside a traditional salon, you already know the problem — traveling sharpeners stick to high-volume shops and rarely make it to you.
You shouldn't have to cut with dull shears just because nobody comes to your door. Drop your shears off at our shop and pick them up sharp — on your schedule, not theirs.
The Real Problem
Traveling sharpeners built their routes around large salons with a steady stream of shears. If you work independently, you're simply not worth the stop to them. That leaves you stuck with dull shears, chasing a service that was never designed with you in mind.
This Is for You
You don't have to be inside a traditional salon to deserve a professional sharpening service. If any of these sound like you, you've found your solution.
You run a real, professional operation from your home. Your shears work just as hard as any salon's — and now you have the same reliable access to sharpening they do.
You love the independence of your own suite — but that also means no traveling sharpener ever knocking on your door. Drop-off solves exactly that.
Your booth is in a shop, but the sharpener only services the owner's shears or skips your location entirely. Now you have your own reliable option.
You go to your clients — your shears go everywhere with you. They take a beating. Drop them off and get them back ready to work as hard as you do.
Simple Process
No subscription. No waiting list. No route to get on. Just drop off your shears and come back to pick them up sharp.
Come by our shop Monday through Friday, 10am to 5pm. No appointment needed — just walk in. If those hours don't work for you, call us at 313-451-1460 and we'll find a time that does.
Each pair is inspected, cleaned, and sharpened to match its specific blade geometry — convex, bevel, or thinning. Tension is set correctly so your shears close and ride the way they were designed to.
We'll reach out when your shears are ready — usually the same day or next business day. No guessing, no waiting around wondering. You'll know exactly when to come back.
Cleaned, oiled, tensioned, and sharp. The difference is immediate — your first cut will feel it. Same-day rush available if you're in a pinch — just ask when you drop off.
Pricing
Every service includes cleaning, oiling, and tension adjustment — no add-ons, no mystery fees. Final price confirmed at drop-off after we take a look at your shears.
All shear types — straight, thinning, offset, Japanese steel, any brand
* Chips, significant damage, or full re-beveling may cost more. We'll always tell you before we do anything extra.
Why Blue Lantern
We built our drop-off service with independent stylists in mind — people who are serious about their craft but don't have a traveling sharpener on a regular route.
We don't prioritize big shops over solo stylists. Every pair gets the same care and attention.
Same location, same hours, five days a week. No waiting to see if someone decides to swing by.
Most shears are done within 24 hours. Same-day rush available — just mention it at drop-off.
Not happy with the edge? Bring them back. We'll make it right, no questions asked.
"Working from home, I never had a sharpener come to me. I was driving 40 minutes just to find someone. Now I drop mine off here and they're done the next morning."

Just drop them off and get back to work.
FAQ
I work from home — do I really have to drive in to drop off my shears?
Yes, this is a drop-off service at our physical shop. But here's the thing: one short trip and your shears are done in 24 hours — versus waiting weeks or months for a traveling sharpener who may never show. Most clients find the drive completely worth it.
What if I can't make it during regular hours?
Call us at 313-451-1460 and we'll work something out. We're flexible with independent stylists — we know your schedule doesn't always fit a standard weekday window.
How long will my shears actually take?
Most jobs are done within 24 hours. We'll contact you when they're ready. If you need them back the same day, just mention it when you drop off — we'll do our best to make it happen.
Will sharpening damage my expensive shears?
Not when it's done right. We match the sharpening method to the blade geometry — convex edges get convex sharpening, bevel edges are handled accordingly. Japanese steel, offset handles, specialty brands — we take extra care on high-end pairs.
Can you fix a chipped or damaged blade?
Often yes. Minor chips and nicks can usually be ground out during sharpening. If the damage changes the price, we'll tell you before doing anything extra. You're always in control.
How often should I be getting my shears sharpened?
A good rule of thumb is every 500 to 700 haircuts — roughly every 6 months for a full-time stylist. If they're pulling, pushing, or folding hair instead of cutting cleanly through it, that's your sign.
What types of shears do you accept?
Straight shears, thinning shears, texturizing shears, chunking shears, offset handles, Japanese steel — if it's a hair shear, we sharpen it. All brands welcome.
